Philippine Trade Training Center was able to implement 372 free training programs nationwide under the DTI-Comprehensive Livelihood and Emergency Employment Program (CLEEP) in 2009. A total of 23,832 participants consisting of overseas workers, displaced workers from the economic zones and export firms, senior citizens, students, housewives, and government employees, attended the trainings from February to October 2009.
PTTC led the briefings on How to Start a Business; Costing & Pricing; Business Recording; Business Options: Franchising, Subcontracting, Distributorship & Dealership; Body Wellness (Hilot) as well as Food Safety; Food Packaging & Labeling; and How to Set up a Coffee Shop/Barista which are suited to the current demands of the business community. PTTC also held sessions on Webpage Development using Joomla for those interested to set up their businesses online.
The Center likewise tied up with other organizations for the conduct of skills trainings to give more business ideas that will enable participants to make decisions in setting up small businesses. Among the valuable partners of the Center is the Cottage Industry Technology Center (CITC) which conducted sessions on: Processing of Meat, Fish, Fruits & Vegetables; Commercial Baking, Preparation of No-Bake Cakes, Holiday Goodies & Native Kakanin; Picture Framing: BeadWorks: How to Make Stuffed Toys, Decorative Candles, Slippers, Scents & Fragrances, and Soap; and Giftwrapping, Flower, & Balloon Arrangement.
Resource speakers from the Product Development and Design Center of the Philippines (PDDCP) were tapped for the courses on Photography, Recycling of Products and Bag Accessorizing. Also invited to join the program were experts from the Meralco Foundation Institute for trainings on Cellphone Repair, Vehicle Troubleshooting, Refrigeration & Aircon Repair and Ricky Reyes Institute & Isdanco Foundation for Salon Management and Hair Cutting courses.
With these various trainings, PTTC hopes to see the emergence of new entrepreneurs who will eventually contribute to the country’s economic growth through self-sufficiency and multiple jobs generation.
